PHILIPPINE EMBASSY PAYS A COURTESY VISIT TO HEMALATHA MURUGIAH, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF INTI INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE, PENANG



Kuala Lumpur, 14 May 2024 - In line with its initiative to support and reach out to the Filipino diaspora and explore future collaborations with higher learning institutions in Malaysia, the Philippine Embassy led by H.E Maria Angela Ponce paid a courtesy visit to Ms. Hemalatha Murugiah, Chief Executive of INTI International College, Penang on 06 May 2024.
Ambassador Ponce was joined by Third Secretary and Vice Consul Patricia Anne Laggui, Labor Attaché Teresa Lourdes Pimentel, Commercial Counsellor Norjamin Delos Reyes, and Ms. Anne Catherine A. Custodio. They were welcomed by Chief Executive Hemalatha Murugiah; Mr. Damian Lee, Director of Student Services; Ms. Cheah Wan Theng, Head of Centre for American Education; Dr. Haarindra Prasad, Dean School of Engineering; and Ms. Runitha Menon Janardanan, Assistant Registrar.
During the meeting, Ambassador Ponce outlined the visit's primary objectives, focusing on enhancing academic exchanges, studying student migration patterns, and identifying potential collaborations between educational institutions.
Acknowledging the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations between the Philippines and Malaysia, both parties expressed great enthusiasm to deepen ties through collaborative initiatives. Chief Executive Murugiah highlighted past successful collaborations with Filipino academics, signaling potential for future partnerships.
Commercial Counsellor Norjamin Delos Reyes underscored the potential of creative industries in the Philippines, suggesting the exchange of best practices in startup incubation, especially in animation and film. The proposal to reignite bilateral relations through cultural exchange, including promoting Filipino dramas, garnered enthusiasm among the delegation.
The Embassy team met with the four (4) Filipino students currently enrolled in the institution. The INTI officials took the delegation with the students on a tour of the campus, including the Startup Incubator, AI and cloud computing laboratories, and restaurant for its Hospitality and Culinary Arts program.
INTI International College, Penang campus was established in 2000. It is ISO certified (ISO 900:2015) and one of the top institutions based on MyQuest (Malaysian Quality Evaluation System for Private Colleges). END
