PHILIPPINE EMBASSY JOINS THE 4TH MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES GOT TALENT IN KUALA LUMPUR
Kuala Lumpur, 24 October 2024 – The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur joined the 4th Migrants and Refugees Got Talent (MnR Got Talent) 2024 at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
The 4th MnR Got Talent was organized by the Ministry for Migrants and Itinerants (MMI), under the Archdiocesan Office for Human Development (AOHD), in collaboration with the Parish Migrant Ministry (PMM), and migrant community leaders (MCLs) in celebration of the 110th World Day of Migrants and Refugees (29 September 2024) to honor and appreciate migrants and itinerants in the community.
Migrant and refugee groups from the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nigeria, and Vietnam participated in the event. Five (5) groups from the Filipino community in Malaysia competed and showcased their talents while several Filipino artists and groups also delivered performances as special guests.
In her remarks, H.E. Ambassador Maria Angela A. Ponce expressed the Embassy’s appreciation for the organizers’ unwavering commitment in supporting the migrant and refugee communities in Malaysia.
Ambassador Ponce noted that the event’s theme, "God walks with His people," was based on Pope Francis’ message on the occasion of the 110th World Day of Migrants and Refugees last 29 September 2024. She added that during the negotiations for the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in the United Nations, the Catholic Church, through the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the UN, was a partner of the Philippines in its initiatives to strengthen the GCM and protect the rights of the migrants.
The GCM was prepared under the auspices of the United Nations, and covers all dimensions of international migration in a holistic and comprehensive manner.
At the end of the lively and energetic performances of the migrant and refugee groups, the following groups received several awards :
Most Favored Award: St. Lourdes - Indonesia (1st)
Uniformity: The Chin Bamboo Dance - Myanmar (2nd)
Colorful Performance: The Dreamers - Philippines (3rd)
