Kuala Lumpur, 28 November 2024 – The St. Paul College Pasig High School Chorale, under the direction of conductor Sheila Marie B. Fetalvero, proudly represented the Philippines in the 3rd Asia Choral Grand Prix held on November 6, 2024, at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas. They competed against three other chorale groups from Indonesia.

The 30-member ensemble earned its place in the prestigious competition after winning the grand champion title in the equal voices category at the Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival 2023 that was held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. During their performance, the chorale presented a diverse repertoire that included Die Kapelle by Robert Schumann, Ave Generosa by Ola Gjeilo, Adao Mamayog Aken by Nilo Alcala, Lauda Sion by Gyorgy Orban, and Sanctus by Darren Vega.

Ambassador Maria Angela A. Ponce attended the event, extending the Embassy’s full support to the chorale and expressing pride in their representation of the country on the international stage.

Later that day, the Philippine Embassy delegation, led by Consul General Roussel Reyes, attended the opening ceremony of the Malaysia Choral Eisteddfod 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center (KLPAC). Organized annually by the Young Choral Academy, the festival is one of Malaysia’s premier choral events, offering a platform for singers, conductors, and educators to collaborate with international choral experts through symposiums, competitions, and concerts.

The Embassy’s presence underscored the Philippines’ commitment to fostering cultural exchange and supporting Filipino talent on international stages. END
