Kuala Lumpur, 30 November 2024 — The Philippine Embassy commemorated the 161st birth anniversary of Gat Andres Bonifacio on 29 November 2024 with a flag-raising ceremony at Sentro Rizal, Kuala Lumpur. The event, held a day before Bonifacio’s actual birth date, paid tribute to his vital role in the Philippine revolution and his enduring legacy in the country’s fight for independence.
Embassy personnel and its attached agencies, gathered to honor Bonifacio’s courage, patriotism, and dedication to the Filipino people's freedom.
In her speech, Ambassador Maria Angela Ponce emphasized that Bonifacio is a true example of leadership and sacrifice, showing that one does not need to come from a privileged background to lead the fight for freedom. Despite the many challenges in his life, Bonifacio led the Katipunan movement and fought for a free and just nation. His principles continue to guide us as we advocate for equality and justice for all Filipinos.
Ambassador Ponce encouraged the staff to embody Bonifacio’s values, honor his legacy, and contribute to building a united and better society. She also emphasized that true heroism is not only demonstrated through grand deeds but also through everyday actions that show care for others and for the nation. END
