Kuala Lumpur, 12 February 2025 - The Migrant Workers Office- Kuala Lumpur hosted the official launch of the exhibit titled “Archipelagic States: Identity, Consciousness, And Law” at the MWO-KL Center on 09 February 2025.

H.E. Ambassador Maria Angela A. Ponce led the launching ceremony which was attended by members of the Filipino community in Malaysia and officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy and MWO.

The exhibit features a giant panel display that shows the development of the archipelagic states doctrine and highlights the Philippines’ contributions to its advancement. It also showcases images that highlight the interconnected communities, ecosystems, and shared challenges faced by archipelagic states like the Philippines.

It aims to promote greater awareness of the Philippines' unique maritime heritage and the country’s commitment to safeguarding its waters with integrity and in accordance with the rule of law.

In her remarks, Ambassador Ponce emphasized the importance of preserving the country’s maritime resources and fostering a deeper understanding of the Philippines' status as an archipelagic nation. She underscored the shared responsibility of every Filipino, wherever they may be, to preserve and protect the country's seas for future generations.

The exhibit made its debut at the United Nations in New York during the 33rd Meeting of State Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in June 2023. The exhibit was then launched at the Philippine Embassy in September 2024, and subsequently it was displayed at the Albukhary International University (AIU) in Alor Setar, Kedah, from December 2024 to January 2025. The display is a graphic design creation of Foreign Service Office Mr. Marthy Angue, while the photos are from documentary photographer Mr. Jacob Maentz.
