10 October 2012 – The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur reported today that in line with its efforts to reach and serve more Filipinos in Malaysia, it has implemented measures to better provide consular services to its nationals.

"Heeding the call of Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert F. del Rosario of 'reaching beyond one's grasp', the Embassy is implementing steps to reach more Filipinos in Malaysia," Ambassador J. Eduardo Malaya said.

It has sent a three man team to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah last October 7 to render consular services to Filipinos. This is in pursuit of the Embassy's efforts to ensure that Filipinos in Sabah have passports so they can apply for the 3+1 amnesty program in Sabah from August 31 up until November 30.

"The Embassy plans to send succeeding consular teams to other parts of Sabah to render consular services. The Consular section is in the process of determining which areas in Sabah need to be visited," he said.

Also in an effort to improve consular services to Filipinos, the Embassy is in the process of requiring accreditation of agencies that wish to conduct business with the Embassy on behalf of Filipinos applying for passports and other consular services.

Through the process of accreditation, the Embassy can provide Filipinos with a list of accredited agencies that have proven themselves to be credible and professional.
