07 May 2012 – The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has urged Filipinos in Sabah, particularly those in the agricultural and palm oil estates sector and their dependents, to avail of the services of the Consular Mobile Teams stationed in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.
"We ask our nationals who were earlier granted exemption from leaving Sabah under the 5P program to avail of the services provided by the Consular Mobile Teams in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau to apply for passport, to enable them to obtain a work permit or a residence visa with and legalize their stay," Ambassador J. Eduardo Malaya said.
The teams were dispatched to Sabah in early January by the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs on a six-month consular mission, and will conclude their operations by the end of June.
To facilitate passport processing, the Embassy and the teams have made arrangements with employers for streamlined requirements for passport applications.
The teams will also conduct a second wave of outreach services in the plantation estates, in coordination with the workers' employers, before concluding their deployment.
"Work and coordinate with your employers, who will then get in touch with the embassy, so we reach you faster," Ambassador Malaya added.
