The Chancery of the Philippine Embassy is nestled amidst Kuala Lumpur's iconic landmarks, including the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC), the Petronas Twin Towers, the KLCC park, and various high-end shopping malls and hotels.
The two-storey building is steeped in history. Built in 1962, the property used to be the private residence of the late Tunku Abdul Rahman, the first Prime Minister of Malaysia after its independence in 1957. It has a lot area of 3,197 square meters (approximately 34,412 square feet) with a residential building built upon it.
The property was leased to the Philippine Embassy for use as a chancery starting on 1 July 1970. The lease continued even when the ownership of the property was transferred to the former Prime Minister's daughter, Tunku Khadijah binti Abdul Rahman.
On 15 October 1987, the Government of the Philippines purchased the property. Transfer of title was recorded on 19 October 1988. Improvements and maintenance on the property are constantly undertaken, including the completion of a full-scale renovation of the Chancery– its workspaces, reception area, conference room, library, and its consular processing area in 2012.
