21 February 2013—The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur reported that Filipino painter Paul Gustilo held his first overseas exhibit during the opening of Art Square Gallery in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur on February 20.

Minister and Consul General Medardo G. Macaraig, Third Secretaries and Vice Consuls Johann Veronica Andal and John Francis Herrera and Cultural Attache Helen Grace Cuisia joined members of the diplomatic corps, journalists and other enthusiasts during the opening of the art gallery and exhibit, which also featured Malaysian and foreign-based artists.

An Iloilo native, Mr. Gustilo showcased nine artworks at the exhibit, two of which were already sold beforehand. He considers this exhibit as his first foray into foreign shores, having mounted and joined around 20 solo and group art exhibits in the Philippines in venues such as the Heritage Gallery in SM Megamall, Shangri-La Plaza mall, the Ayala Mall in Cebu and in other art venues around the Philippines since he ventured into art in 1997.

For this particular exhibit, he was inspired by his experiences in Malaysia, having travelled around the country. His insights as an artist-traveller have translated into vivid paintings portraying different Malaysian landscapes and sceneries. His vivid imaginations have also inspired him to finish his exhibition paintings in less than three weeks.

The Art Square Gallery opened its doors to Kuala Lumpur that day itself. The gallery aims to provide affordable art pieces for those interested to start their collection. Following their mantra that "now everyone can be an art collector," it also offers contemporary art, commissioned art, artistic consultation, delivery and installation to would be art collectors. END
