2013-07-05bandab04 July 2013 - The Citizen’s Brigade Band of Dasmariñas, Cavite is participating in the Malaysia World Band Competition (MWBC) which is being held on 5-6 July, Friday and Saturday, at the Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.

The MWBC is an annual event since 2009 which showcases talents of marching and show bands from around the world.

The Citizen’s Brigade Band is composed of 130 members, mostly students and employees. The band was formed in 1989 with the aim of teaching music and instilling love for music among the youth.

The Citizen’s Brigade Band has gained much recognition and awards by winning in various musical events and competitions. The band won its first Hall of Fame award in 1994 from Pasay City Government for winning in the latter’s town fiesta for 3 consecutive years, under the baton leadership of Mr. Victor Sapida. It has since then been a grand slam winner in numerous marching band competitions around the country.

The band showed their prowess Wednesday at the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, a mall located at KL’s main shopping district Bukit Bintang.

Dasmariñas Mayor Jennifer Austria-Barzaga, Cavite Representative Elpidio Barzaga and other Dasmariñas residents are in KL to give the band members moral support and encouragement.

“We are happy to see the participation of the Citizen’s Brigade Band of Dasmariñas at this prestigious tournament. They are raising the Philippine flag up high and spreading friendship and goodwill with Malaysians and other participating countries,” Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia J. Eduardo Malaya said.

The CBBD’s yearly summer music workshop produces an average of 80-100 graduates. Most of them became scholars in different universities in the country, thus producing productive citizens and adding pride to Dasmariñas.
