25 January 2014 – The Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) signed the Annex on Normalization and the Addendum on Bangsamoro Waters in ceremonies held in Kuala Lumpur.
These documents complete the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro and pave the way for the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro.
GPH chief negotiator Miriam Coronel-Ferrer and MILF chief negotiator Mohagher Iqbal signed the documents for both sides, witnessed by Malaysian facilitator Tengku Datu Abdul Ghafar Tengku Mohamed, members of the Philippine Senate and Congress and members of the media.
“The Embassy shares the feeling of the peace panels and we believe that this is a very important step towards lasting peace in Mindanao. We also laud the hard work, passion and dedication of the people who made everything possible,” Embassy Charge d’Affaires Medardo Macaraig said.
The GPH and the MILF signed the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro on 15 October 2012. Both parties have also signed the annexes on transitional arrangements and modalities (February 2013), revenue generation and wealth sharing (July 2013), and power sharing (December 2013). END
