PRESS RELEASES

2 May 2019 – In celebration of Labor Day, the Philippine Embassy in Malaysia, along with its partner agencies and services, organized an information dissemination seminar for the overseas Filipinos working and residing in Johor on 28 April 2019 at the KSL Resort and Hotel, Johor Bahru.

One hundred thirteen (113) members of the Filipino community attended the Sunday afternoon session where officials of the Philippine Embassy’s ATN and consular sections, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC), Social Security Services (SSS), and the PAG-IBIG Fund gave presentations on the various services offered by their respective offices and answered questions from OFWs.

In his welcome remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Charles C. Jose noted the importance of the Filipino working diaspora as the impetus for the Embassy’s information drive.  Kinikilala naming ang inyong pagod at sakripisyo alang-alang sa inyong mga mahal sa buhay sa Pilipinas.  This is the reason we are here… Gusto naming maghatid ng impormasyon na magagamit niyo bilang mga OFWs.”

Ambassador Jose also urged the participants to take advantage of the learning opportunity presented by the six (6) Philippine government agencies.  “I encourage you to stay for the entire duration of today’s programs, to take notes, and to maximize this opportunity to learn.  I also encourage you to share what you learn today with your family and friends, lalo na sa mga kasama nating OFW na hindi nakarating ngayon.”

The event was capped with a question-and-answer session, followed by afternoon tea and snacks. Participants also had the opportunity to apply for SSS and PAG-IBIG membership after the seminar.
