Kuala Lumpur, 27 February 2022 – In celebration of National Arts Month, the Philippine Embassy in Malaysia held two activities for Filipino and Malaysian children. A storytelling session and art tutorial for the kids were held to introduce the participants to different forms and expressions of Philippine art and to promote Filipino culture.

In line with the theme “Sining ng Pag-Asa”, the event also aimed to recognize arts as a source and expression of hope as shown in the creative ways people respond to the effects of the pandemic, natural calamities, and other social realities, as well as the arts’ role in improving community life as Filipinos.

Madam Ma. Victoria “Vicky” Jose, spouse of Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Charles Jose, shared a literary piece entitled, “The Turtle and the Monkey”, which is a story first published by our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.

The second activity was an art tutorial conducted by Malaysia based Filipina artist and teacher, Ms. Anna Karina Jardin. Ms. Jardin taught the kids how to draw a Filipino cultural symbol, the “sarimanok”, which is a Maranao symbol of good fortune and is considered a “messenger of hope”.
