10 December 2018 – Three non-government organizations devoted to uplifting underprivileged women and children in Malaysia received financial assistance through the efforts of the ASEAN Ladies’ Circle (ALC) Kuala Lumpur and their inaugural “Fun Walk for a Cause.”
Held on 10 November 2018 at the Kuala Lumpur Botanical Gardens, the Fun Walk for a Cause
is a fund-raising project of the ASEAN Ladies Circle (ALC) in Kuala Lumpur under the leadership of ALC President Mdm. Maria Victoria H. Jose, who also serves as Patron of ALC Philippines being the spouse of Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Charles C. Jose. The event, which attracted around 350 participants, was organized by ALC Philippines and the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, and supported by ALC Brunei Darussalam, ALC Indonesia, ALC Lao People’s Democratic Republic, ALC Malaysia, ALC Myanmar, ALC Singapore, ALC Thailand, and ALC Vietnam.
The funds were subsequently donated in three separate handover ceremonies throughout the month of November 2018 to the following organizations: the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB), the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM), and Global Street Mission (GSM) Sarah’s Inn Women’s Rehabilitation Center and Precious Children’s Home for the Abused, Destitute, and Neglected Children.
At the three donation ceremonies, the ALC Patrons were warmly received by GSM President Mr. John Subramaniam and his wife Margaret Rose, NASOM President Puan Feilina Feisol, and MAB Deputy Chairman Datu Kula, as well as each organization’s officers, staff, and beneficiary women and children.
“One of the main goals of the ASEAN Ladies’ Circle is to encourage the advancement of women and children in the ASEAN region in the fields of education, economics, and social standing, and this is why we have decided to target women and children as our beneficiaries of this Fun Walk,” Mdm. Jose emphasized in her keynote remarks during the handover ceremonies.
The ASEAN Ladies’ Circle is a non-profit organization comprised of women from the ten members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) which aims to promote mutual understanding and encourage cultural exchanges among its members, to disseminate information on the ideals and objectives of ASEAN, and to promote the advancement of women and children in the ASEAN region.
