PHL EMBASSY COMMEMORATES BONIFACIO DAY AND OBSERVES THE 18-DAY CAMPAIGN TO END VAW
Kuala Lumpur, 29 November 2023 — The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur commemorated the 160th anniversary of the birth of Andres Bonifacio and the start of the 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) through a flag-raising ceremony in the Embassy grounds on 28 November 2023.
Ambassador-Designate Ponce addressed the personnel of the Embassy and its attached agencies and highlighted the significance of commemorating the two milestones.
In her speech, H.E. Maria Angela Ponce encouraged everyone to draw inspiration from the life of Gat Andres Bonifacio, urging all public servants to fulfill their duties and responsibilities with compassion, kindness, and dedication, and to emulate the examples of Filipino heroes like Bonifacio who fought for freedom and equality. She also emphasized the importance of respect for women and their rights. “The objectives of the campaign to end violence against women reflect the deeper aspirations and principles that our heroes like Bonifacio fought for in their struggle for freedom”, Ambassador-Designate Ponce said.
The birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio is celebrated annually on 30 November, while the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW is observed from 25 November to 12 December of this year. END.
