FILIPINA PUBLISHER TAKES CENTER STAGE AT SELANGOR INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR 2023
Kuala Lumpur, 4 December 2023 – Filipina children’s books publisher and writer, Ms. Mary Anne Ordinario, was one of the awardees of the Selangor International Fellowship Programme (SIFC) at this year's Selangor International Book Fair 2023 (SIBF 2023).
Ms. Ordinario, who hails from Mindanao, is a founder of ABC-EDC Children Books and is the author of 25 children's books. Her book “The Crying Trees” was awarded the 2016 Grand Prize in the Samsung KidsTime Award in Singapore, with four of her books winning the second prize. She also holds a position on the board of the National Book Development Board (NBDB) of the Philippines.
The SIBF 2023 features an international fellowship program which aims to strengthen Selangor as Southeast Asia’s Children’s Rights hub. It is a venue where Malaysian and international partners can collaborate through information exchange and professional dialogue. Other participating countries include Australia, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Nepal, South Korea, and Turkiye.
The opening of SIBF 2023 was inaugurated by HRH Sultan of Selangor Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj and YAB Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor and Chairman of Selangor Public Library Corporation, Amirudin Bin Shari. Philippine Ambassador H.E. Maria Angela Ponce joined the opening ceremony and congratulated Ms. Ordinario on her selection as Fellow.
The annual Selangor International Book Fair attracts literary enthusiasts, publishers, and authors from around the globe, providing a platform to showcase diverse literary talents. This year’s book fair is from 1 to 10 December 2023. It is held at the MBSA Convention Center, Shah Alam. END.
