PILIPINAS SAMBO TRIUMPHS AT THE SOUTHEAST ASIA SAMBO CHAMPIONSHIP 2023

Kuala Lumpur, 18 December 2023 – Pilipinas Sambo secured five (5) gold medals, one (1) silver medal and (3) bronze medals at the Southeast Asia Sambo Championship 2023 held on 16-17 December 2023 at Vivamall, Kuala Lumpur.

Chino Sy, Mark “Mugen” Striegl, Godwin Langbayan, Robin Catalan, Aislinn Agnes Yap, Jomary Torres and Jeloird Alvarez made the Philippines proud by giving theirexceptional performance and showcasing their prowess in the Sport Sambo and Combat Sambo competitions.

Pilipinas Sambo Federation Inc. (PSFI) President Paolo Tancontian, Head Coach Ace Larida, and Coach Sydney Sy played a pivotal role in supporting and guiding the team to success.

PSFI is the national governing body of the Russian martial arts of Sambo in the Philippines and is a member of Fédération Internationale de Sambo (FIAS) and SAMBO Union of Asia (SUA) since 2015.

The championship featured a total of 120 competitors from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. At the opening ceremony, Third Secretary and Vice Consul Ms. Kara Denise Frayco and Cultural Officer Ms. Jesher Micha Carolino from the Embassy of the Philippines supported the team by met with the team and expressed the Embassy's full support.
