FILIPINOS IN MALAYSIA DRAW INSPIRATION FROM DR. JOSE RIZAL, COMMEMORATES MARTYRDOM WITH SPECIAL SCREENING OF "RIZAL'S PEN"

Kuala Lumpur, 30 December 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, in coordination with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), commemorated the 127th anniversary of Rizal’s martyrdom with a special screening of “Rizal’s Pen”, on 29 December 2023. 

The 45-minute film was written and directed by Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards Hall of Famer Nicolas B. Pichay, and produced by the NCCA – Sentro Rizal Secretariat, in partnership with Tanghalang Pilipino and the Department of Foreign Affairs in 2021. It tells a story about a young man and his discovery of the relevance of Rizal’s writings in his life even in the present times.

This aligned with the theme of this year’s Rizal Day Commemoration: "Rizal: Pundasyon ng Kahapon, Isinasabuhay Ngayon" (Rizal: Foundation of the Past, Living Today). The event, attended by Embassy personnel as well as members of the Filipino Community, also served as a meaningful conclusion to 2023, encouraging participants to carry on the inspiration of Rizal’s legacy in the years to come. - END
