PHL TEAM TRIUMPHS IN WORLD INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD (WIMO) FINALS 2023
Kuala Lumpur, 10 January 2024 - The Philippine Team triumphed at the World International Mathematical Olympiad (WIMO) Finals 2023 held on 06-07 January 2024 at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, garnering 14 Gold, 18 Silver, 30 Bronze, and 35 Merit Awards.
The Philippine team was composed of 97 students from various schools. The following mathletes were also declared World Champion in their respective categories: Liam Spark Palarca (Primary 2, from Quezon City), Carsten Edmund Ang (Primary 6, from Taguig), Brian Jansen Vallejo (Secondary 1, from Ilocos Norte), and Reuben Joseph Felix (Secondary 3, from Batangas City).
Two hundred eighty (280) students out of 40,000 participants qualified to compete in the WIMO Finals 2023. Aside from the Philippines, the other participating countries were: Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Bulgaria, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
WIMO is a by-invitation competition open only to students who have achieved two Gold Awards in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Mathematical Olympiad (Big Bay Bei Final), Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad Final (TIMO Final) or Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad Final (HKIMO Final).
