PHILIPPINE EMBASSY JOINS WHITE RIBBON RUN IN SUPPORT OF CAMPAIGN TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

19 January 2024 – With a 36-strong contingent, the Philippine Embassy joined the All Women Society’s (AWAM) White Ribbon Run on 14 January 2024 at Padang Merbok, Kuala Lumpur to support the campaign to end violence against women. With the theme “Break the Silence, End the Violence,” funds raised from the fun run and awareness campaign will be used for AWAM’s community programs and services.
 
Ambassador-Designate Maria Angela A. Ponce, Embassy personnel and their family members participated in the 3km, 5km, and 10km run categories. AWAM President Ho Yock Lin welcomed the Embassy's strong participation and support for the activity, which saw over a thousand runners participate, including former Malaysian Trade Deputy Minister Ong Kian Ming and Tengku Aira Tengku Razif, Assistant Representative to the United Nations Population Fund.
 
AWAM is a non-profit organization founded in 1985 with an advocacy to sustainably and holistically address gender-based violence through policy advocacy, trainings, support services, and community engagement. It also encourages men and boys to join the advocacy, highlighting their important role in the movement to promote gender equality and healthy relationships. The White Ribbon Run was also supported by the High Commission of Canada and the UN Population Fund -END.
