Kuala Lumpur, 13 February 2024 – The Embassy of the Philippines in Kuala Lumpur organized an art workshop entitled "Larawan ng Lahi at Kultura: A Celebration of Filipino Artistic Diversity" in celebration of the 2024 National Arts Month last Thursday, 08 February 2024. The event saw enthusiastic participation from Filipinos and Malaysians residing in Kuala Lumpur including the President of UNIFIL and MCGI, Mr. Julian Elisan, and Cultural Specialist, Dr. Asma Abdullah.

In her welcoming remarks, Ambassador-Designate Maria Angela Ponce emphasized the significance of the event, stating, "This year, under the theme, 'Ani ng Sining, Bayang Malikhain', we aim to create more awareness and appreciation of the excellence of Filipino art, and to celebrate artistic and collaborative endeavors as essential contributions to the Philippines’ development and cultural richness."

Renowned Filipino artist based in Malaysia, Ms. Anna Karina Jardin, led the engaging workshop, which featured a lecture on Philippine art history and the various artistic styles by Filipino artists such as Fernando Amorsolo, Pacita Abad, and Abdulmari Imao. Participants were given the opportunity to explore these styles through hands-on activities as each of them was provided with two to three canvases to work on. The workshop culminated in the assembly of the individual artwork, revealing a collective silhouette of Dr. Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines. END
