On 27 February 2024, Philippine Ambassador-Designate Maria Angela A. Ponce received officials of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), headed by Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) OIC-Deputy National Statistician , Mr. Fred S. Sollesta, at the Philippine Embassy in Malaysia. OIC-DNS Sollesta was accompanied by OIC-Assistant National Statistician Sittimazuin M. Hofileña, and Chief of Registration Management Division Josephine F. Bulanga.
Their team is conducting a month-long PhilID registration at the Embassy and the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Taman Maluri. Registration is ongoing until 21 March 2024.
OIC-DNS Sollesta recalled the years-long collaboration between the Embassy and PSA in providing civil registration services to Filipinos in Malaysia and Sabah, and expressed appreciation to the Embassy for ensuring a high turnout of PhilID registrants. In turn, Ambassador-Designate Ponce thanked the PSA for supporting the Embassy in its continuous endeavor to facilitate Filipinos’ access to Philippine government services, such as education, that would otherwise be unavailable without registration.
They also reaffirmed the mutual commitment of the Embassy and PSA in addressing challenges and exploring possible opportunities in ensuring the unhampered and responsive delivery of registration services to Filipinos in Malaysia and Sabah.
