AMBASSADOR PONCE PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO HIS MAJESTY SULTAN IBRAHIM
20 March 2024, Kuala Lumpur – H.E. Maria Angela A. Ponce presented her credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to Malaysia to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, at the Istana Negara on 20 March 2024.
Ambassador Ponce, the first woman ambassador of the Philippines to Malaysia, led the first group of Ambassadors to present credentials to the King of Malaysia following his enthronement on 31 January 2024.
Ambassador Ponce conveyed the warm greetings of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and of the Filipino people for the good health and continued success of the King. She also affirmed the commitment of the Philippines to the deepening of ties with Malaysia, highlighting the celebration of the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations between both countries this year.
His Majesty warmly welcomed the Ambassador, reminiscing about his strong bond with President Marcos, citing that "they grew up together." He also expressed a personal fondness for "adobo," and extended his gratitude with "maraming salamat po." After the ceremony, His Majesty granted a joint audience session to the Foreign Heads of Missions.
