YOUNG FILIPINO MUSICIANS SHINE AT GOLD STAR INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COMPETITION

Kuala Lumpur, 24 April 2024 – Brian Berino and Dyollyvette Stanlie Bautista showcased Filipino musical talent at the grand finals of the Gold Star International Music Competition 2024 held from April 19 to 21, 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center.
 
Mr. Berino, 21, secured First Prize in the Piano Solo Professional category (age 18 to 35) with his performance of "Triana" by Isaac Albéniz. Ms. Bautista, 13, was Grand Finalist in the Piano Solo Amateur category (age 13 to 17). She performed Fantasia by Mozart.
 
The Embassy’s Second Secretary and Consul Leandro Luiz Manantan and Cultural Officer Ms. Jesher Micha Carolino were in attendance and extended the Embassy’s congratulations and support.
 
Brian and Dyolly paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Maria Angela Ponce on 22 April 2024, where they discussed their future aspirations and delighted the Embassy with an impromptu performance. The Ambassador commended them on their remarkable achievements, highlighting the positive impact they had on raising the profile of Filipino talent on the international stage.
 
Brian is a piano major at the University of the Philippines College of Music in Diliman, and is coached by renowned Filipino pianist Jovianney Emmanuel Cruz. He was accompanied by his father, Dennis Berino. Dyolly studies piano online with Mr. Joemel Benito. She was accompanied by her parents, Lloyd and Novette Bautista. Her father, an OFW in Saudi Arabia, was very happy that he was on holiday to witness Dyolly’s triumph.
 
The Gold Star International Music Competition is the first “Malaysia-born” international music competition, with live preliminary rounds in piano and violin categories. From 2400 entries, 400 from 14 countries and regions made it to the final round. Aside from the Philippines, Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam were also represented. Participants competed in various categories, including Piano, Strings, and Vocal, in Solo, Ensemble, and Concerto performances.
