 PHILIPPINE EMBASSY MEETS WITH AUSTRALIAN AMBASSADOR TO COUNTER MODERN SLAVERY PEOPLE SMUGGLING AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING 1
03 May 2024 — The Philippine Embassy participated in a working dinner hosted by Ms. Lynn Bell, Australia’s Ambassador to Counter Modern Slavery, People Smuggling, and Human Trafficking, on 30 April 2024 at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur.
 
Second Secretary and Consul Leandro Luiz S. Manantan and Labor Attaché Teresa Lourdes D. Pimentel joined counterparts from Australia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Nepal, the United Kingdom, and the United States to discuss perspectives on trends and policy approaches on people smuggling and human trafficking in South and Southeast Asia. The gathering facilitated a constructive exchange on enhancing regional cooperation and refining strategic measures to tackle these pressing issues.
 
This dialogue took place in the lead up to the 17th Bali Process Ad Hoc Group meeting on 03 May 2024 in Kuala Lumpur. Established in 2002, the Bali Process serves as a crucial platform for its 45 member countries to enhance regional dialogue, cooperation, and capacity building in addressing people smuggling, human trafficking, and related transnational crimes.
 
The Philippine Embassy reaffirms its commitment to collaborate with ASEAN partners and regional allies, including Australia and Indonesia, to forge sustainable solutions to combat trafficking in persons.
