PHILIPPINE SCHOOLS TRIUMPH AT T.H.E. AWARDS ASIA 2024 MABALACAT CITY COLLEGE BAGS TOP AWARD FOR INNOVATION
Kuala Lumpur, 04 May 2024 - In a proud moment for Philippine education, Mabalacat City College (MCC) took home the top Award for Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year at the Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia 2024, held on 29 April 2024 at the Sunway Resort Hotel.
Mabalacat City College (MCC) bested competition from Chiang Mai University (Thailand), Chris University (India), James Cook University Singapore, Lovely Professional University (India), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Marmara University (Turkey), and National University of Singapore.
The award was in recognition of MCC's Smart Classroom project featuring several "highflex learning" classrooms outfitted with cameras, microphones, monitors, interactive screens and boards, and soundproof walls to facilitate simultaneous onsite and online learning. The Smart Classroom includes digital content sharing capabilities that allow students to present and copy lectures via QR codes from their smartphones. Mr. Kevin Aaron Peralta, MCC’s Assistant Vice President for Linkages and International Affairs, accepted the award on behalf of the college.
Three other Philippine universities earned recognition in various categories: Our Lady of Fatima University was a finalist for Outstanding Contribution to Regional Development; both this university and Saint Louis University Philippines were nominated in the Research Project of the Year for Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences category; and Lyceum of the Philippines University Cavite was acknowledged in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) category.
Second Secretary and Consul Leandro Luiz S. Manantan conveyed the Embassy's congratulations and ongoing support to all the distinguished Philippine finalists.
This year’s THE Awards Asia ceremony, graced with guest of honor Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, celebrated the exemplary achievements in higher education across Asia, spotlighting the region’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and international outlook.
