PHILIPPINE PARTICIPANTS COMPLETE COURSE ON ASSOCIATE QUALIFICATION IN ISLAMIC FINANCE

Kuala Lumpur, 31 May 2024 – Twenty Philippine participants led by Hon. Mohammad Shuaib Yacob, Minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform, successfully completed the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme - Associate Qualification in Islamic Finance (MTCP-AQIF) in Kuala Lumpur, from 06 to 13 May 2024.
Other representatives were from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Al-Amanah Islamic Investment Bank of the Philippines, and the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos. The MTCP-AQIF program was co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia (MOFA) and the Islamic Banking & Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM).
In her keynote speech, Her Excellency Maria Angela A. Ponce, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to Malaysia, noted that capacity building in Islamic Finance is a priority of the Marcos Jr. administration. The Ambassador also highlighted how timely it was that the program coincided with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Malaysia, as it demonstrated the commitment of both countries to mutual prosperity and friendship, and ongoing collaboration in promoting Islamic Banking and Finance.
Ambassador Ponce expressed her gratitude to the hosts and participants for their contributions to the program’s success, and congratulated them for successfully completing the program and encouraged them to apply their newfound knowledge and skills, emphasizing the potential to further enhance Islamic Finance products and services in the Philippines.
