FILIPINO COMMUNITY LEADERS GAIN INSIGHTS ON THE WEST PHILIPPINE SEA
10 June 2024 – Filipino community leaders gained invaluable insights on the West Philippine Sea during the lecture organized by the Philippine Embassy, entitled “Not One Inch: What Every Filipino Must Know About the West Philippine Sea” held on 30 May 2024, at the Embassy Conference Room.
The lecture was delivered by esteemed guest speaker from the University of the Philippines-College of Law, Prof. Jacqueline Joyce Espenilla, who is concurrently a Senior Fellow at the UP Institute for Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea.
With a focus on raising awareness and understanding among Overseas Filipinos, Prof. Espenilla's engaging discussion delved into the Philippines’ rightful claims in the South China Sea (SCS) and provided valuable perspectives on the 2016 SCS Arbitral Award.
In her remarks, Ambassador Ponce thanked the Filipino community leaders for their presence and active participation, and underscored the importance of the topic, particularly as the issue of safeguarding Philippine maritime heritage and territorial integrity holds profound significance to all Filipinos as an archipelagic nation.
