PHILIPPINE EMBASSY COMMEMORATES 126TH ANNIVERSARY OF PROCLAMATION OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE

13 June 2024 - Ambassador Maria Angela Ponce led the Philippine Embassy in commemorating the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence through a flag raising ceremony and traditional Filipino breakfast.
This year’s theme is “ Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.” (Freedom. Future. History.). The flag raising ceremony was followed by the video messages of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique A. Manalo.
In his message, President Marcos highlighted the honor of being part of a nation with courageous ancestors who fought to restore the country's independence and peace. He reminded his fellow Filipinos to protect the freedom passed down to them and ensure that they never give in to any threats of invasion or oppression. He also called on Filipinos to unite, fuel their love for the country, while the nation navigates towards achieving the vision of Bagong Pilipinas.
On the other hand, Secretary Manalo emphasized that this year's theme: "Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan." encapsulates the significance of honoring the sacrifices of our ancestors in their struggle for self-determination, and of safeguarding the gains of their victory that allow us to enjoy freedom and democracy. The Secretary also highlighted that the theme is a reminder of the continuing task of nation-building, a call for Filipinos to work together to build our Bagong Pilipinas.
Embassy and attached agencies personnel and their family members enjoyed a traditional Filipino breakfast of daing na bangus, beef tapa, arroz caldo, and pan de sal. They also enjoyed the traditional Malaysian dish, nasi lemak. END
