PHILIPPINE EMBASSY MARKS 126th ANNIVERSARY OF PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE WITH DIPLOMATIC RECEPTION

Kuala Lumpur, 25 June 2024 – The Philippine Embassy hosted a diplomatic reception on 12 June 2024 at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, in celebration of the 126th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence with the theme Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan. (Independence Day 2024: Freedom. Future. History.).
The Honorable Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister of Works of Malaysia, graced the event as Guest-of-Honor. The Honorable Raja Dato’ Nuhirwan bin Zainal Abidin, Director General of the National Security Council, members of the Diplomatic Corps, the business community, and the Filipino community were also in attendance.
In her remarks, Ambassador Ponce emphasized that Philippine Independence Day is a celebration of the rich tapestry of our country’s history and culture, and the enduring relations it has built with other nations. She also highlighted that the event forms part of the year-long celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Malaysia, underscoring the dynamic relationship of the two countries built on mutual respect and cooperation, and a shared commitment in promoting peace and prosperity in the region. Ambassador Ponce expressed hope to further strengthen collaboration with Malaysia across diverse fields, with focus on inclusive growth and sustainable development.
Her Excellency reaffirmed the Philippines' commitment to peace and ASEAN centrality amidst the complex geopolitical realities of the region, and invited the audience to watch highlights of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s keynote address at the recently held International Institute for Strategic Studies’ Shangri-la Dialogue, where the President underscored the country’s determination to be a champion for regional and global unity, and a staunch defender of the rules-based order. Recognizing the importance of peace, security, and stability for all countries, the President cautioned against geopolitics affecting states people's fundamental duty to deliver for the people and safeguard their future. He also stressed that the Philippines is not a mere bystander to unfolding world events, but a main actor driving the future of the region, together with other countries.
Guests were treated with a Filipino culinary feast that included lumpiang shanghai, tofu sisig, bistek tagalog, kinilaw na tuna, and turon, complemented by San Miguel Beer and ARC Gin cocktails. Ms. Junji Delfino, a Filipino jazz legend in Malaysia, regaled the crowd with her band.
The celebration was supported by Tourism Promotions Board Philippines, ARC by Full Circle Craft Distillers, Jollibee, Likha, Petron, Philippine Airlines, Pilmico and Gold Coin Group Malaysia, URC Munchy’s, and Vista Land.
