Kuala Lumpur, 27 June 2024 – The Inquirer Group of Companies (Inquirer), StarMedia Group (SMG), and Media Group of Kompas Gramedia (KG Media) jointly launched the Asia ESG Positive Impact Consortium on 21 June 2024 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The consortium is an alliance of three influential media powerhouses in Asia that aims to fast-track the adoption of ESG - environmental, social and governance - in the mainstream media to ensure public accountability and transparency. The partnership seeks to promote sustainability through a three-pronged approach that focuses on education, engagement, and the community.
Speaking on behalf of the consortium, Star Media Group CEO Chan Seng Fatt underscored that all three media groups are united in their pursuit of sustainability and positive impact. In the context of greater environmental and social challenges, he emphasized that Asian countries have increasingly recognized that sustainable practices are no longer optional, but essential, for the collective future.
Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim graced the event as the guest of honor. In his keynote speech, he highlighted that achieving net zero requires a collaborative effort involving all facets of society - the government, the private sector, and the people. Hence, the formation of the consortium is timely as it can leverage the prowess of three media groups to facilitate collaborative action among stakeholders, businesses, and the public.
The event was attended by Mr. Rudyard Arbolado, Inquirer Group of Companies President, Mr. Andy Budiman, KG Media CEO, Her Excellency Maria Angela A. Ponce, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines, His Excellency Hermono, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, along with other dignitaries from the diplomatic corps and the media. END.
