01 August 2024 - The opening ceremony of the 3rd season of Malaysia OFW Basketball League (MOB League S3) was held at the Malaysian Basketball Association (MABA) Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on 28 July 2024. The ceremony included a parade that featured the 17 official MOB Teams, the OFW Melaka Basketball Team, a contingent from the Philippine Embassy, and their respective muses. The MOB League Staff, the MOB Gold Team, and the Junior MOB Academy (kids) also joined the parade.

 

The opening ceremony was graced by Consul General Roussel Reyes and Welfare Officer Rosanna Siray, who both lauded the initiative of the organizers of the basketball league. They also reminded the participants that while they would be fierce competitors on the court, once the games are over they should set their rivalries aside.

 

The first game of the day was an exhibition match between the Embassy's Basketball Team and the MOB Gold Team, which ended with a final score of 73-58 in favor of the latter. Those in attendance also included the Embassy’s officers and staff, who loudly cheered on their colleagues during the exhibition game.

 

The charity basketball league’s aim is to cultivate camaraderie and sportsmanship among the members of the Filipino community. It was also announced during the event that a portion of the proceeds of the tournament would be given to Filipino communities and distressed OFWs in Malaysia. END
