23 September 2024 - Department of Tourism (DOT) Undersecretary Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar highlighted the Philippines' efforts in promoting Muslim-Friendly and Halal Tourism at the 4th World Islamic Tourism Conference (WITC) held at the Sunway Resort Hotel in Selangor, Malaysia from 12 to 13 September 2024.

Undersecretary Valderrosa-Abubakar shared that among the recent offerings of the country for Muslim tourists is a Muslim-friendly cove for families and travelers in Boracay, a collaboration between the Local Government Unit of Malay (LGU-Malay) and the DOT, in partnership with Megaworld Hotels and Resorts. This initiative is part of the broader Halal and Muslim-friendly tourism effort spearheaded by the DOT under the Marcos administration.

Ambassador Ponce welcomed Undersecretary Valderrosa-Abubakar and expressed the Embassy’s full support to the DOT’s initiatives in muslim-friendly tourism in the Philippines and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the growth of this key sector. She also discussed the Embassy’s initiatives in promoting the Philippines to Malaysian tourists, especially as the Philippines and Malaysia celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations. Malaysia is the 10th largest source of tourists to the Philippines, with 97,639 Malaysians visiting the Philippines in 2023. END
