03 October 2024 — The Philippine Halal Business Forum, held on 25 September 2024, during the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2024, was a milestone in Philippines-Malaysia economic ties as the forum saw significant participation from the Malaysian business sector and highlighted the expanding opportunities within the Philippine Halal industry.

As part of MIHAS 2024, the forum provided a platform for robust discussions on investment, innovation, and collaboration in the halal sector. Malaysian business leaders and Philippine officials engaged in meaningful exchanges about advancing mutual interests and exploring new business prospects in this vibrant industry.

“We are delighted with the success of the Philippine Halal Business Forum, held alongside the prestigious Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS). This forum effectively showcased the vast potential of the Philippine Halal industry and reaffirmed our dedication to attracting global Halal businesses and investments. The significant interest and engagement observed reflect the Philippines’ preparedness to emerge as a key player in the international Halal market,” said Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Maria Angela A. Ponce.

This forum builds upon the discussion initiated during the official visit of Malaysian Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the Philippines on March 2, 2023, where halal industry collaboration was identified as one of the key areas for potential Cooperation.

“The Philippines is eager to explore new partnerships that will not only drive mutual prosperity but also unlock promising prospects in the Halal industry, contributing to the expansion and success of this dynamic and flourishing industry,” added Ambassador Ponce.

The speakers at the forum included representatives from the Halal Development Corporation Berhad, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
