04 October 2024 –The Philippine Embassy, the Migrant Workers Office-Office of Workers Welfare Administration (MWO-OWWA KL) and the Philippine Trade Investment Center (PTIC) held a Brown Bag Session on starting and managing a business on 21 September 2024 at the MWO-OWWA KL premises in Kuala Lumpur.
The session brought together participants of the MWO-OWWA KL’s skills training programs and Pinoy entrepreneurs from Kuala Lumpur and the Philippines.
In her opening remarks, Ambassador Maria Angela A. Ponce said the session will complement the MWO-OWWA’s skills training programs by focusing on the business side of the skills they learn, with the aim of giving them options should they wish to venture into setting up their own businesses.
The entrepreneurs who generously shared their time and experiences were Ms. Eva Blas, owner of Eva’s Salon in Kota Raya Complex in Kuala Lumpur and a former MWO student, Ms. Lara Ochoa-Moubarak and Ms. Vida Sockanathan, co-founders of Likha, a boutique that features products made by Filipino artisans; Ms. Gloria Morales, the owner of Wellness International Corporation in the Philippines, which produces and exports coconut-based products; and Henry Raca, President and CEO of C&H Cosmetics Industry, who has 20 years of experience in the manufacture and export of skincare products.
Welfare Officer Rosana Siray delivered the closing remarks and expressed her gratitude to the speakers for their valuable insights. She encouraged our fellow Filipinos to continue participating in MWO-OWWA training programs. Additionally, she urged our kababayans to help spread awareness about these skills and training programs, emphasizing that greater participation would benefit more Filipinos in Malaysia. END
