4 October 2024 – The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, led by Ambassador Maria Angela Ponce, met with Filipino community leaders in Kuching, Sarawak, on 21 September. Accompanied by Minister and Consul General Roussel Reyes and Third Secretary and Vice Consul Kara Denise Frayco, Ambassador Ponce reaffirmed the Embassy's commitment to supporting Filipino nationals, particularly those in distress, and promoting cultural activities with the Filipino community in Sarawak.

During the meeting, community representatives Mr. Justin Bersales and Ms. Faith Villahermosa Jap shared insights into the experiences of Filipinos in Sarawak. Ambassador Ponce emphasized the important role of community leaders, noting that they possess an understanding of the situation on the ground and are often the first responders to fellow Filipinos in need.

Filipinos in Sarawak contribute to various fields, such as the services, healthcare, and oil and gas sectors. END.
