Kuala Lumpur, 17 December 2024 – 147 Overseas Filipino Workers successfully completed the latest skills training program of the Migrant Workers Office-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (MWO-OWWA KL).
The Philippine Embassy, led by Ambassador Maria Angela A. Ponce, attended their graduation ceremony at the Cheras North International Convention Center on 08 December 2024.
The training programs covered diverse courses such as Cooking, Baking, Basic Mandarin, Nail Art and Eyebrow Threading, Batik Painting, Dressmaking, Voice Lessons, Basic Computer Literacy, Microsoft Office, Reflexology and Body Spa, as well as Hair Culture and Beauty Care.
Ambassador Ponce was joined by Consul General Roussel Reyes, Vice Consul and Third Secretary Kirstoff Gail Ocampo and Vice Consul and Third Secretary Patricia Anne Laggui.
In her remarks, Ambassador Ponce emphasized the Embassy’s commitment to empowering OFWs through continuous education and skills development. She also underscored the significance of these training programs in equipping migrant workers with essential skills that foster both personal and professional growth and highlighted how such initiatives prepare OFWs for reintegration into society and open doors to new opportunities, both locally and abroad.
Welfare Officer Rosana Siray highlighted the significance of the free skills training program as a key component of the Reintegration Preparedness Program for OFWs in Malaysia. She noted that these sessions not only equip participants with valuable knowledge but also strengthen camaraderie and build strong community bonds.
Welfare Officer Rosana also thanked the volunteers and trainers for their dedication and contributions to the program’s success.
Looking ahead to 2025, she announced plans for additional free training sessions, events, and initiatives aimed at further supporting the Filipino community.
During the event, Tokens of Appreciation were also presented to 11 dedicated volunteers and trainers in recognition of their invaluable contributions and commitment in sharing their expertise with their kababayans.
The Embassy extends its congratulations to all the graduates and expresses its gratitude to the trainers and volunteers who have contributed to the success of the programs. END
