AMBASSADOR PONCE ATTENDS LAUNCH OF EXHIBIT ON “OCEANS THAT SPEAK: ISLAM AND THE EMERGENCE OF THE MALAY WORLD”
Kuala Lumpur, 19 December 2024 – Ambassador Maria Angela A. Ponce attended the launching ceremony of the special exhibition “Oceans That Speak: Islam and the Emergence of the Malay World” at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia on 13 December 2024. The event was officiated by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, accompanied by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Tuan Syed Mohamad Albukhary.
The exhibition highlights the profound influence of Islam on the Malay world, tracing its development through trade, migration, and cultural exchanges.
The exhibit includes artifacts from Mindanao, with the exhibit catalogue having a chapter written by Dr. Felice Noelle Rodriguez, Director of the Universidad de Zamboanga Centre for Local History and Culture.
The Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia is Southeast Asia’s largest Islamic arts museum with over 10,000 Islamic artifacts around the globe.
The “Oceans That Speak” exhibition is open to the public until 15 June 2025. END
