Kuala Lumpur, 20 December 2024 – The Migrant Workers Office in Kuala Lumpur (MWO-KL) hosted Pasasalamat, a thanksgiving celebration, at Concorde Hotel on 17 December 2024.

The event paid tribute to the resilience and invaluable contributions of Filipino migrant workers, while recognizing the steadfast dedication of government agencies, private sector partners, and community leaders who have supported MWO-KL’s mission to uplift and empower the Overseas Filipino community in Malaysia.

In her speech, Ambassador Maria Angela Ponce thanked MWO-KL for their tireless efforts and service to the Filipino community. She highlighted the significant contributions of Filipinos, particularly during the observance of International Migrants Day, and acknowledged their vital role in bridging cultures and strengthening ties between Malaysia and the Philippines. Ambassador Ponce reassured the Filipino community that the Embassy and its partner government agencies remain fully committed to addressing their needs and concerns through the unified One Country Team approach.

Labor Attaché Terelou Pimentel in her speech emphasized the critical role of the partnership between MWO and OWWA in Kuala Lumpur (MWO-OWWA KL) in delivering essential support, protection, and opportunities to Filipino workers in Malaysia. She also assured our kababayans that additional initiatives are planned for 2025 to further empower and support Overseas Filipinos.

As she approaches the conclusion of her tour of duty at the end of 2024, Labor Attaché Pimentel expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Filipino community and all partners for their steadfast support. She urged the Filipino community to extend the same cooperation to the incoming Labor Attaché to ensure the continuity and success of MWO-KL’s mission.

The event was attended by various FILCOM organizations from across Malaysia, further emphasizing the strong unity within the Filipino community. Ambassador Ponce was accompanied by Consul General Roussel Reyes, Vice Consul and Third Secretary Kristoff Gail Ocampo, Defense and Armed Forces Attaché Joel Lobitaña, Police Attaché Excelso Lazaga Jr., and Foreign Liaison Officer Arthuro Lee.

The Pasasalamat celebration highlighted the collective strength and solidarity of the Filipino community in Malaysia and a reaffirmation of the Philippine Embassy’s and MWO-KL’s commitment to continue serving the needs of Overseas Filipinos. END
