EMBASSY MARKS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY WITH SELF-DEFENSE TRAINING SEMINAR
Kuala Lumpur, 8 March 2025—The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines marked International Women’s Day with a self-defense training seminar for its personnel and for Filipino community leaders.
The seminar was conducted by SheFights Malaysia, an organization that empowers women by providing comprehensive training in personal safety and security skills. The facilitators, Ms. Benny Farok and Mr. Vladimir Dvorak, lectured on “Understanding Harassment” and guided participants through practical self-defense techniques.
In her opening remarks Ambassador Maria Angela A. Ponce emphasized the importance of celebrating the achievements and contributions of women in all sectors of society and raising awareness regarding gender discrimination and gender parity. She further underscored the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) National Women’s Month Celebration sub-theme “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas.”
The Philippines celebrates the entire month of March as International Women’s Month. To promote this the Embassy observes #PurpleWednesdays and encourages everyone to support all women's rights and gender equality by simply wearing purple every Wednesday of March. END.
