KUALA LUMPUR, 23 April 2025 – In celebration of Filipino Food Month (FFM), the Migrant Workers Office - Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (MWO-OWWA KL) organized an Adobo Festival on 20 April 2025 featuring variations of the adobo — one of the most iconic and beloved staples of Philippine cuisine.

Adobo is known for its rich, savory flavor and tender meat, typically made with chicken, pork, or a combination of both. It is cooked by simmering the meat in a marinade of vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, bay leaves, and black peppercorns — a blend that creates a perfect balance of salty, tangy, and umami flavor. It’s best enjoyed with steamed rice, which soaks up the flavorful sauce.

With this year’s FFM theme, “Sarap ng Pagkaing Pilipino, Yaman ng Kasaysayan, Kultura at Pagkatao,” the event aimed to honor the cultural, historical, and national significance of Filipino cuisine. The celebration brought together members of the Filipino community, including MWO-OWWA trainees, who gathered to enjoy and celebrate Filipino food.

The dishes were prepared by MWO-OWWA KL personnel led by Welfare Officer Rosanna Siray.

Among the dishes that were prepared were Adobo Tablea, Adobo sa Mangga, Adobo Dilaw, Adobo sa Gata, Adobo Puti, Adobo sa Kamatis, Adobo sa Aligue, Adobo Pula, Adobo Bisaya, and Adobo sa Toyo. These diverse interpretations of adobo showcased the richness and creativity of Filipino culinary traditions, with each version reflecting regional flavors and cultural influences.

Filipino Food Month, or Buwan ng Kalutong Pilipino, is celebrated every April by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 469, s. 2018. This initiative aims to promote, appreciate and preserve the country’s culinary heritage, both locally and among Filipino communities abroad. END
