ASEAN LADIES CIRCLE DONATES RM 5,000 TO RUMAH SERI KENANGAN-CHERAS

Selangor, 26 April 2025 – The ASEAN Ladies Circle (ALC), led by H.E. Maria Angela Ponce, ALC President and Patron of ALC Philippines, donated RM 5,000 to Rumah Seri Kenangan (RSK) Cheras, a government-run elderly care facility under the Department of Social Welfare Malaysia with the primary purpose of providing shelter, care, and support for senior citizens, especially those without the means or family support to care for themselves.

ALC President Ponce was joined by Datin Paduka Anizan Siti Hajjar, Alternate Patron of ALC Malaysia, ⁠H.E. Ms. Lada Phumas, Patron of ALC Thailand, Madam Do Thi Huong Lan, Patron of ALC Viet Nam, Madam Indrasti Iskandar, Alternate Patron of Indonesia and other members of ALC.

Also present at the event were Dato’ Sri Zulkeflee Hazeh, Chairman of the Board of Visitors of RSK, and Tuan Haji Azmir Bin Kassim, Director of the Department of Social Welfare Malaysia-Selangor State.

The charity visit included a briefing on RSK by Mr. Zamzuri Mohamed, a guided tour of the facility, a cheque presentation to Dato’ Sri Zulkeflee Hazeh, and the giving of gift bags from Mamee, a Malaysian food manufacturing company famous for its snacks and instant noodles.

In her remarks, ALC President Ponce noted that the charity visit and donation reflect ALC’s commitment to promote community and regional solidarity. She emphasized the importance of compassion, shared responsibility, and learning from one another as ASEAN neighbors. She noted that this visit was “a valuable opportunity for us to learn more about care services in Malaysia and explore how we can further support initiatives that promote the dignity and well-being of the elderly.”

She also expressed appreciation to Alternate Patron Datin Paduka Anizan Siti Hajjar Adnin of ALC Malaysia for her continued guidance and support for the ALC.

The ALC aims to promote mutual understanding, cooperation and solidarity among women of the ASEAN community in Kuala Lumpur in particular and in the whole Malaysia in general, and to encourage cultural and social exchanges between members.
