AMBASSADOR PONCE ATTENDS MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT HARI RAYA CELEBRATION

PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA - On 28 April 2025, Ambassador Maria Angela Ponce attended the Hari Raya celebration of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES).

Dubbed the Majlis Lebaran Lestari NRES 2025, an Eco-Friendly Hari Raya celebration, the event was held at the Everly Hotel in Putrajaya, with YB Tuan Nik Nazmi bin Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability as chief guest.

The event was organized by NRES in collaboration with the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM) and brought together dignitaries, government officials, and environmental advocates to promote green practices during festive occasions.

Ambassador Ponce discussed with the Minister and Yang Berusaha Dr. Ching Thoo Kim, NRES Secretary General, opportunities for bilateral collaboration including in waste management, protection of communities and ecosystems, and climate resilience.

In support of the event’s eco-friendly theme, plastic water bottles were not used and guests were encouraged to separate food scraps from non-food waste on their plates. Some of the food waste was sent to the Recycling Innovation Facility (FIKS) to help reduce landfill use and promote more sustainable disposal practices.
