RETENTION AND RE-ACQUISITION OF PHILIPPINE CITIZENSHIP RA 9225

 

Former Filipinos may re-acquire their Philippine citizenship through Republic Act (RA) 9225 or the Citizenship Retention and Re-acquisition Act. This law, which took effect on 17 September 2003, declares that former natural-born Filipino citizens who acquired foreign citizenship through naturalization are deemed to have not lost their Philippine Citizenship under conditions provided in the Act, a former Filipino can re-acquire Philippine Citizenship by taking an Oath of Allegiance to the Republic of the Philippines.

  REQUIREMENTS FOR PRINCIPAL:

Duly accomplished, verified petition/application form for Retention and Re-acquisition of Philippine Citizenship;

Four(4) pieces passport size photograph with white background and must be taken within the last three months from the date of application;

Original and DFA authenticated copy of proof of natural-born Philippine citizenship (e.g. Philippine Birth Certificate, cancelled Philippine passport, Voter’s Identification Card, Philippine Marriage Certificate indicating the Philippine citizenship of the petitioner) or any other Philippine-issued official document proving natural-born Philippine citizenship;

Photocopy of Certificate of Naturalization or other naturalization documents, with English translation if written in other foreign language, or affidavit stating how and when foreign citizenship was acquired;

Original and photocopy of valid foreign passport;

DFA Authenticated Marriage Certificate, if married;

DFA Authenticated Death Certificate, if widowed; and

DFA Authenticated Court Decision to nullify the marriage, if annulled.

  REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH DEPENDENT CHILD:

Accomplished Supplement for Dependent Form;

Four(4) pieces passport size photograph with white background and must be taken within the last three months from the date of application;

Photocopy of Birth Certificate of Dependent Child; and

Photocopy of valid foreign passport bio-page of Dependent Child.

Processing Period : Processing of Documents - 3 working days

Requirements for AUTHENTICATION OF DOCUMENTS SIGNED IN THE PHILIPPINES

 

1) Submit the original documents for authentication to the Office of Consular Affairs-Authentication Division, Department of Foreign Affairs

3)  Get the authenticated document (from the Philippines) and present to the Philippine Embassy on the date of your confirmed online appointment.

IMPORTANT:

Clients are reminded to bring their complete sets of documents, including originals and photocopies, as well as copies of signatories' I.C. or passport, for their own convenience.

If the owner or signatory of the document/s cannot appear at the Embassy, a representative may submit the documents. The owner or signatory of the documents must issue an authorization letter to said representative, to include the IC/Passport of both owner and representative.

Requirements for AUTHENTICATION OF DOCUMENTS SIGNED IN MALAYSIA

 

1) Get confirmed online appointment of the Embassy (https://philembassyklappointment.biz/app/public/)

2) Present the original documents to a Commissioner of Oaths / Notary Public in Malaysia for notarization;

3) Submit the notarized documents to the Consular Section of Wisma Putra (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) for authentication;

3) After authentication by Wisma Putra Consular Section, submit the documents to the Embassy for Consularization

Sisikapin ng Embahada na ipaabot ang lahat ng nararapat na tulong nang hindi na kinakailangang magpunta sa Embahada, kung maaari.
